About Green Tara
In Tibetan Buddhism, Green Tara holds an exalted position. Also known as Dolma, she is the compassionate manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, and the chief among the 21 Taras. She is revered for her ability to save beings from eight great dangers, such as fire, lions, elephants, snakes, water, imprisonment, thieves, and non-human beings, earning her the title "Savior from the Eight Difficulties." Green Tara's functions include dispelling disasters, healing illnesses, enhancing wisdom, bestowing wealth, and particularly favoring women, ensuring their safety, health, and happiness. In Tibetan Buddhism, Green Tara is the core representative deity for female devotees, providing spiritual strength and courage to face difficulties, encouraging the pursuit of inner peace and wisdom, and aiding personal growth. She embodies compassion and wisdom, alleviating the suffering and disasters of sentient beings and bestowing happiness and auspiciousness.
Legend
According to legend, White Tara and Green Tara emerged from the tears of Avalokiteshvara. Green Tara is said to have originated from the tears of Avalokiteshvara's right eye, while White Tara from his left eye. Thus, Tara is considered the embodiment of Avalokiteshvara's compassionate tears. She is not only a savior in times of disaster but also a spiritual guide. Whether facing fire, lions, elephants, snakes, water, imprisonment, thieves, or mysterious creatures, her protection is like a gentle embrace, dissipating suffering like smoke.
