Vairocana, also known as Mahavairocana, is the Dharmakaya Buddha in Esoteric Buddhism. The name “Vairocana” means a light that dispels darkness and symbolizes wisdom that removes ignorance. He represents light, wisdom, and truth.

It is said that Vairocana once enlightened a believer who vowed to build bridges and pave roads. The believer worked tirelessly, helping others along the way. When the king offered a feast to Vairocana, the well-maintained road pleased the Buddha. Vairocana touched the believer’s head and said, “A level road signifies a level mind.” The believer then realized the unity of all things and attained enlightenment, becoming the Bodhisattva Dharmodgata in his next life.
